Inmarsat announces Type Approval for Skyware Technologies’ ATOM 99 Global Xpress Terminal Featured

The highest performance flyaway Global Xpress terminal to date.

ATOM99 GX imageInmarsat, the world’s leading provider of global mobile satellite communications, has announced, following extensive testing, that it has granted full Type Approval for Skyware Technologies’ ATOM 99 flyaway terminal, for use in its new Ka-band Global Xpress satellite service.

This Skyware Technologies terminal features an antenna measuring 99cm in diameter, making it the largest portable Global Xpress terminal to date.  Its rugged build and lightweight, easily transportable design, coupled with pointing assistance for rapid satellite signal acquisition, makes it ideal for quick deployment to deliver high speed broadband access anywhere it is needed.  The terminal can be set up and online in minutes and can be assembled without the need for any tools or specialist training.

The ATOM 99 features a dual-offset antenna which, with its 99cm main reflector provides maximum efficiency and best possible radiation characteristics for improved data throughput and availability. The tripod is fabricated from aluminium with adjustable legs which provides a low profile and wide operational footprint while minimising stowed length.  The entire terminal fits within two IATA compliant flight cases for ease of transport.

Oliver Kroner, CEO of Skyware Technologies, commented: “The ATOM 99 completes Skyware’s offering of fixed and flyaway terminals for Inmarsat’s Global Xpress satellite service.  It uses the same Ka-band transceiver designed and manufactured by Skyware Technologies as our two existing flyaways – the ATOM 65 and ATOM 65 Auto Acquire – and benefits from all the advantages of being fanless and highly integrated for greater efficiency and ease of deployment and use.  The ATOM range of GX terminals, uniquely in GX, all employ a dual reflector design which means they offer the performance advantages of larger single reflectors, whilst remaining compact and light weight.  I consider the ATOM 99 to be a key terminal for Inmarsat’s GX success and predict rapid and significant deployment on a global scale.”

Greg Ewert, President, Inmarsat Enterprise said: “Inmarsat are pleased to confirm the addition of the ATOM 99 Global Xpress terminal to its portfolio.  Skyware Technologies’ terminals are a key part of making our Global Xpress service a success and I foresee considerable appetite for this terminal in many of the market sectors we serve, but particularly from media and oil and gas customers.”

Inmarsat will be showcasing the ATOM 99 terminal on stand SU11003CM at NAB, Las Vegas next week, along with live demonstrations of the broadcast quality of Global Xpress with an outside broadcast from Rio de Janeiro.
